On October 22, 2017, at the first MUN Thought Leader’s Summit in Doha, Qatar, representatives from the Model United Nations community met to discuss the importance of moving students from academic debate to impactful action, and to encourage MUN programs to embed outreach, service and support of the United Nations, particularly for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), into MUN programs and conferences.
Since that initial meeting, MUN directors, delegates and interested stakeholders have expressed enthusiasm and interest to develop a more action-oriented MUN community, and to harness the enthusiasm of Model UN practitioners to actively work to spread awareness of, and take action on, the SDGs.
MUN Impact was born!
MUN Impact is a global community that believes in the power of Model United Nations to inform, inspire, and motivate its participants to action.
The MUN Impact community is committed to:
- Being a hub for sharing stories of impactful MUN activities, best practices, and ways to support, through action, the Sustainable Development Goals.
- Acting as a platform through which the United Nations can engage the MUN community, share information and act as a source of inspiration.
- Delivering experiential learning opportunities for students that are focused on the SDGs and that bring together diverse individuals from around the world.
- Hosting world class, student-planned and executed events that allow for further sharing and collaboration around the SDGs.
In May 2017, Colegio Ayalde became the first MUN Impact Partner Club in Europe.
Since then, we have worked hard to encourage other schools to follow our lead and join MUN Impact, have organised several campaigns to help acheive various SDGs and attended and presented at the first MUN Impact Summit in the United Nations in New York in April 2018.
As of MUN Bilbao 2020, we are also a MUN Impact Conference and the current student liaisons are Adriana Oyarzabal, Maria Barcala and Sofia Tarela.
